Welcome to the Center for Business Communications! We're glad you're here and we look forward to working with you. If you don't see an open slot that works for you, email us at cbc@american.edu. We aim to respond within one business day.

REMINDER: Due to fall break, the KCBC will be closed on Friday, October 12.

Note: we are now located in MGC 320 (on the third floor of MGC in the former AU Incubator space)! Take the elevator to the third floor, turn right, then make a quick left -- we're the suite at the end of the hallway.

Welcome! We are now located in MGC 320 (on the third floor of MGC in the former AU Incubator space)! Take the elevator to the third floor, turn right, then make a quick left -- we're the suite at the end of the hallway.

Please follow the steps below to make an appointment, because we need to know if you are:

  • a graduate or undergraduate student
  • if you are an undergraduate, which course you need help for
  • if you seek face-to-face or “e-tutoring” (description below)

To schedule a face-to-face appointment:

  1. Click on "Limit to" to specify your appointment focus.
  2. Double-click on one of the white squares and complete the pop-up form.
  3. Check your email to make sure you have received confirmation of your appointment

If you would like to book a longer appointment, you may reserve two half-hour appointment slots back to back.

For those who can’t make it to campus during tutoring hours, we also offer “e-tutoring.” For e-tutoring, you pick an appointment time with a peer consultant but you don’t meet face-to-face. Instead, you upload your paper to that peer consultant who will then write comments on your work and return it to you through e-mail.

***Although “e-tutoring” is convenient, we believe you will see the greatest improvement in your writing when you make in-person appointments.

To schedule an e-tutoring appointment:

  1. Click on "Limit to" to specify your appointment focus.
  2. Double-click on one of the white squares and complete the pop-up form.
  3. In the box that says “Meet Online,” choose “Yes- Schedule e-Tutoring Appointment.”
  4. Complete the remaining questions, and press “Save an Appointment.”
  5. MOST IMPORTANT STEP: You will see a screen reading “Success!” Attach your file in .doc or .docx.

After your e-tutoring appointment:

  1. You'll receive an email notifying you that your consultant has finished their comments.
  2. Log into WCOnline, return to your appointment slot, and download the paper with your consultant’s comments.

Questions? Email us at cbc@american.edu if you need help making an appointment, and we’ll respond within one business day.
